“The airport is a symbolic place of farewells and welcomes, departures and returns. It makes us think of the freedom of travel, freedom in general, and the awaited moment of homecoming, the return to one’s homeland,” said Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk in Poznan when signing of an agreement on assistance provided at airports to repatriates from Kazakhstan, arriving to settle in Poland.

The event was held at Poznań–Ławica Henryk Wieniawski Airport. The agreement between the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Welcome Airport Services Sp. z o. o. company was signed by Iwona Kozłowska, the Director of the Department for Cooperation with Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad and the CEO of the company, Piotr Wieczorek.

The signing was attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the representatives of the Wielkopolskie Province, Sroda Wielkopolska district office as well as 17 repatriates – Poles from Kazakhstan, who are staying at the “Rodak” Training and Recreational Centre in Sroda Wielkopolska.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk emphasised that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs looks after Poles returning to their homeland, making efforts to render their first contact with Poland as positive as possible. “We want the moment they become Polish citizens as they cross the Polish border to be significant and memorable,” he noted.

The signing was accompanied by the launch of an exhibition titled “Known Unknown. The Poles’ Contributions to the World”. The exhibition, prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Polish Academy of Sciences Archive, presents the profiles of 44 outstanding Poles whose paths led them to Kazakhstan, Siberia, the US, Canada, Peru or Ecuador. Many of them were science and technology pioneers, remembered in the memories of the world’s nations for their outstanding achievements in research and arts. The exhibition is open until 23 October at the departures hall of the Poznań-Ławica airport.
