We consider the Houthi drone attack targeting Mecca to be unacceptable. It is part of a pattern of actions leading to chaos and instability in the Middle East, threatening civilians, civilian infrastructure, and maritime shipping lanes.

We call for respect for the special status of religious sites and symbols—and for refraining from attacks against them—especially given the serious challenges to global security and the economy that we currently face.
