Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk visits Kosovo

On 6-7 June 2022, Secretary of State Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk visited Pristina. The Poland-Kosovo talks focused on bilateral cooperation, European integration, and security situation in Europe.

While in Kosovo, Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk inaugurated a direct air link between Warsaw and Pristina operated by the LOT Polish Airlines. In his address, the deputy minister emphasised that launching direct flights from Warsaw to all capitals of the Western Balkans not only proves Poland’s growing activity in the region, but also provides a strong basis for further enhancement of relations with countries in this part of Europe, including economic cooperation.

During his working visit, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk also met with First Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz and Chief of Staff to the President of Kosovo Blerim Vela.

The deputy foreign minister signed, along with his Kosovan counterpart, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academies of the two countries. 

The secretary of state also opened, together with Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade Rozeta Hajdari, Polish-Kosovan Economic Forum, on the sidelines of which the Polish Investment and Trade Agency and its counterpart from Kosovo signed a cooperation agreement. In his speech, the deputy Polish foreign minister highlighted the great growth potential of bilateral economic relations, in particular in the energy sector, environmental protection, ICT technologies, transport, and the agri-food sector.

At the end of his visit to Kosovo, the secretary of state met with Polish soldiers serving in the Polish Military Contingent as part of KFOR and police officers serving in the EULEX mission. Currently, over 250 Polish troops and over 100 Polish police officers are posted in Kosovo. Furthermore, the deputy minister laid flowers under a plaque commemorating the death of Polish soldiers, Sergeants Paweł Legencki and Piotr Mikułowski, who died on 4 March 2003 while on the NATO Allied Harmony peacekeeping mission in Sopot, North Macedonia.
