Talks between foreign ministers of Poland and Malta

01.02.2024

Chief of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski met today in Warsaw with Malta’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg.

Minister Radosław Sikorski welcomed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta, Mr. Ian Borg, in Warsaw

At the meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the very good state of Polish-Maltese relations and with the countries’ commitment to build a partnership-based dialogue, which was best exemplified by the ceremonial opening of the Polish Embassy in Valetta last April. Ministers Sikorski and Borg underlined the need to further support Ukraine in its war against Russia.

Minister Borg, in turn, pointed out that Russia’s illegal aggression against Ukraine will be a key point on the agenda during Malta’s OSCE Chairpersonship.

The ministers also reaffirmed readiness to collaborate in the fields of security, protection of the EU borders against irregular migration, economic and cultural cooperation, as well as common global challenges, particularly in the context of Malta’s OSCE Chairpersonship and its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

Immediately after visiting Warsaw, Minister Ian Borg went to Kyiv on his first visit as both Malta’s top diplomat and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.
