Other guests included Polish archaeologists involved in research on the Mayan civilization in Guatemala.

- Our bilateral cooperation is getting more intense and more comprehensive. It is becoming an important part of Polish and Guatemalan international policy - said the Head of the Foreign Service in his inaugural speech. Polish-Guatemalan relations dating back to the 1930s have always been based on mutual respect and esteem for diplomatic values. In Poland, where between 1994 and 2000 a diplomatic mission of Guatemala previously existed, the newly reopened embassy is 98 diplomatic mission to Warsaw.

The Head of the Foreign Service mentioned the links between the two countries – both on the religious level in the community of Christian values, which St. John Paul II referred to during his second pilgrimage to Guatemala, and scientifically. Thanks to the research carried out in the Triangulo Park, Polish archaeologists working alongside their Guatemalan counterparts made a spectacular discovery of the first royal tomb in Nakum, dated to the turn of the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

The reopening of the Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala – in words of the Head of Foreign Service – will serve as the basis for further development of bilateral relations with Poland.
