UN Security Council debate on cooperation with the League of Arab States

“The United Nations and the League of Arab States must join their forces to find the way to strengthen peace and stability in the Middle East through synergy,” said Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz during a UN Security Council briefing on cooperation of UN and the League of Arab States.

In his address, Minister Czaputowicz presented Poland’s view of the situation in the Middle East, pointing out that the conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Libya pose a threat to European security. He also underscored that terrorism, radicalisation and illegal migration negatively affect  neighbouring countries  and regions.

The chief of Polish diplomacy argued  that there is  an imminent need to maximize the cooperation of regional and sub-regional organizations to achieve an effect of synergy of the activities taken by the United Nations and the League of Arab States as well as African Union and European Union and other important contributors, especially United States of America.

During his visit to the UN, Minister Czaputowicz also met with the Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah. The ministers discussed prospects for further development of  bilateral cooperation and the coordination of actions in the UN Security Council. They also talked about the tensions in the Persian Gulf.

Minister Czaputowicz also met with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit to discuss the situation in the Middle East, the Persian Gulf and North Africa, and  prospects of  the Middle East Peace Process.

On the sidelines of his visit to New York, the chief of Polish diplomacy also attended a Polish Advisory Council session, where the attendees discussed actions to generate positive image and enhance political and social activity of the Polish-American community. Young Polish-Americans  were also present at the meeting to  present their scientific and academic projects  carried out together  with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York.
