30.05.2025
Between 26 and 28 May, Deputy Minister Anna Radwan-Röhrenschef was visiting Peru for political talks with its Deputy Foreign Minister, Félix Denegri Boza. Top of the agenda was the state and prospects of fostering Poland-Peru relations in the political, trade and investment dimensions.
The deputy ministers discussed academic exchange, culture cooperation, consular and migration issues, as well as sharing views on selected global issues, particularly the Ukraine war. At the close of their meeting, they signed an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal cases, which provides a legal framework for more effective combating of international organised crime.
While in Lima, Deputy Minister Anna Radwan-Röhrenschef also met with Teresa Mera, Peru’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism. Their talks covered trade and investment cooperation, including overcoming barriers to market access. The Polish side expressed interest in organising a trade mission to Peru, especially with respect to fintech and green technologies.
During her Peru visit, the deputy head of the Polish MFA met with delegations from UN agencies and travelled to the Santa Rosa District, the site of a planned Polish development assistance project to expand water access.
An important element of the visit involved a tour of places linked to Poland and Polish people, particularly engineers and architects who contributed to Peru’s preservation of independence and its development in the 19th century. Set up in 1936, Parque Polonia is a memorial to outstanding Polish engineers, while almost the whole of Lima’s historical centre was designed by Polish architects.
Deputy Foreign Minister Anna Radwan-Röhrenschef had the opportunity to meet with descendants of Poles who played significant roles in Peru’s history, including a great-granddaughter of Edward Habich, whom she presented with a certificate of Polish citizenship. She also met with students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
