“Facing the situation in Afghanistan, the European Union needs to address two issues simultaneously: besides the coordination of the most urgent humanitarian measures, we also need to reflect on the future of the EU-Afghan relations,” said Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz during today’s extraordinary session of the EU foreign ministers on the situation in Afghanistan.

Deputy Minister Przydacz announced Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s decision to issue 45 humanitarian visas for Afghans employed at the EU post and their family members. The decision is one of many measures taken to bring back Polish citizens as well as Afghans who supported the construction of a democratic state and are now in danger. He also noted that the situation in Afghanistan results in increased migration pressure on the EU’s external borders, including the Polish-Belarusian strip. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy also called to for political efforts to preserve the achievements and change of the past 20 years in Afghanistan regarding the defence of basic human rights, particularly the rights of women and girls.
