Wolfgang Schäuble, proponent of Polish-German reconciliation, dies

It is with great regret that we bid farewell to Wolfgang Schäuble, former president of the Bundestag and minister in several governments of the Federal Republic of Germany, a doyen of German politics. He was one of those politicians who, without any exaggeration, can be called a statesmen. He found politics to be his vocation and mission, which he followed till the end his life. Wolfgang Schäuble was a convinced European and understood perfectly the value of European integration. At the same time, he displayed great interest in relations with Central and Eastern Europe. He realised the importance of Poland–Germany relations and understood the significance of reconciliation between the Poles and the Germans.
