Poland in the EU

As part of ongoing talks on regional security and the situation around Ukraine, the President of Poland met with EU and NATO leaders in Brussels today.

In cooperation with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, Permanent Representation of Poland to the European Union commemorated the 77th anniversary of liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp.

Priorities of the French Presidency, the coordination of actions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the package on democracy and fair elections were the main items on the agenda at the Council of European Affairs Ministers. Poland was represented by Ambassador Andrzej Sadoś.

Deputy Minister Pawel Jablonski participated in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC). The main topic of the meeting was the development of the security situation in Eastern Europe, as well as an exchange of views on Libya and Syria, the Indo-Pacific region, Mali and Sudan.

During the European Council, the heads of states and governments of EU member states held a discussion on, among others, Russia's aggressive actions and the concentration of its troops along the border with Ukraine, the situation in Belarus and the use of migrants by the regime in Minsk to attack the European Union, as well as high energy prices.

EU leaders and heads of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine attended the 6th Eastern Partnership Summit. Poland was represented by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The main topic of the Council was the situation on the EU's border with Belarus and the tension surrounding Ukraine generated by Russia. EU foreign affairs ministers agreed on the need to send a clear signal against potential Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Two days before the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels, an agreement was signed on the resale and distribution of vaccines from EU countries to Eastern Partnership countries.

The situation at the EU's external borders with Belarus and EU training missions were the main topics of the Foreign Affairs Council in Defence format. Poland was represented by Andrzej Sadoś, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU.

The topics of Monday's Foreign Affairs Council meeting were: the situation on the border with Belarus, EU involvement in the Western Balkans and Sahel regions and works on the Strategic Compass for the Common Security and Defence Policy (in a joint session of foreign and defence ministers).
