Warm conversations and lots of smiles - this is how Monday’s meeting at the Senior+ Day Care Center in Wola Karczewska, attended by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg, can be briefly described. The main topic of the meeting was the law making the 14th pension permanent.

On July 19, President Andrzej Duda signed a law providing for an additional annual cash benefit for pensioners, the 14th pension. It was published in the Journal of Laws on Monday.

On this occasion, President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg visited the Senior+ Day Care Center in Wola Karczewska. The meeting with the participants of the Center’s activities was full of warm conversations and kindness.

The Act on the 14th pension and the whole range of legislation supporting seniors are the results of good cooperation between the authorities. Seniors are our treasure and deserve to live with dignity - President Andrzej Duda said at Monday’s press briefing.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized: “We have fulfilled our next commitment when the promise we made to seniors was kept." “That promise was that we would manage public finances in such a way that there would be enough for the 14th pension, for the permanent 14th retirement benefit,” said the prime minister.

According to the Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg, “the inclusion of the 14th pension as a permanent item in the list of benefits for pensioners is a guarantee that it will be paid regardless of circumstances. This provides a sense of security and stability.”

When will this year’s 14th pension be paid?

The 14th pension will be paid ex officio, without the need for any application or declaration. It will be paid in full to those whose gross monthly pension does not exceed PLN 2.9 thousand. For those who receive more, the 14th pension will be reduced on a “zloty for zloty” basis.

This year’s 14th pension is scheduled to be paid in late August or early September.

When will the legislation come into effect?

The Act on the additional annual cash benefit for pensioners will enter into force 14 days after the date of its promulgation, with a few exceptions that will take effect on January 1, 2024 and January 1, 2025.
