EPSCO Council meeting in Brussels with Minister Marlena Maląg

On Thursday, the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg participated in the meeting of the EU Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) in Brussels. The topic of the meeting was, inter alia, a draft directive on improving working conditions through online platforms.

The Polish government attaches great importance to the protection of persons performing work. We are all aware of the fact that the platform economy increases the chances of many persons in the labour market thanks to flexibility and facilitation in better reconciliation of roles – says Minister Marlena Maląg.

The Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg also met with the Minister of Labour and Social Policies of Italy, Marina Calderone. The topic of the talks was, inter alia, a draft directive on online platforms. As Minister Maląg added, reaching an agreement in this regard required the involvement of all Member States and high flexibility.

During the Council meeting, a number of debates were held, inter alia, on the 2023 European Semester. The European Semester is a procedure during which economic, fiscal, employment and social policies are coordinated in the EU. As part of the procedure, the European Commission prepares a report for each country on the implementation of the recommendations from the previous year and proposes recommendations for the next year.

There was also a discussion on demographic policy and care strategy. As the Minister of Family and Social Policy stresses, the talks at the EU level are required in developing comprehensive and long-term solutions. It is also an opportunity to exchange good practices and experiences.

In the subject of demographic strategy, of key importance are activities being currently undertaken, in the area of care for children below 3, work, housing and health – indicates Minister Maląg.
