Family Ministry extends the Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors until the end of the year

Easter is coming. A special time which, unfortunately, may once again prove difficult for many Poles, including senior citizens, due to the current pandemic situation. - With the elderly in mind, we have decided to extend the operation of the Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors, Minister Marlena Maląg said.

The Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors provides assistance mainly to people over 70 years of age who will remain at home due to the threat of coronavirus infection. Support is also provided to younger people who do not have the capacity to meet essential needs on their own due to the person's health and family and social situation.

Continuing support for seniors

The Solidarity Assistance Corps for the Seniors is an important aid during times of a pandemic. – As we see the number of calls to the helpline remain on a constant level, we see the need to continuously provide help to those who need it - emphasises the Minister of Family and Social Policy. Therefore, the programme has been extended at least until the end of 2021, if a coronavirus outbreak still persists in Poland by then.

- Dear Seniors, you can still benefit from our support. I encourage people to contact the helpline, especially those living far from their relatives and friends – says Minister Marlena Maląg.

Acting together for a good cause

Due to a wide group - more than 12,000 volunteers and over 300 youth organisations as well as deputies from social welfare centres - help is effectively provided to those who need it most. The total of PLN 150 million was allocated for the programme.

How obtains assistance?

By calling the toll-free number 22 505 11 11, seniors can submit requests for support both in the form of purchasing everyday necessities - food and hygiene items as well as providing warm meals or arranging a medical appointment.
