Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk in the European Parliament on the priorities of the Presidency of the EU Council

The Polish Presidency of the EU Council began on 1 January this year and will last until the end of June. During this time, Poland will preside over the work of the Council, which will be based on security in seven dimensions. These are: defence capability, protection of people and borders, resistance to foreign interference and disinformation, ensuring security and freedom of economic activity, energy transition, competitive and resilient agriculture and health safety. The activities of the Ministry during the presidency will focus on social security and the labour market.

The foundation of the Polish Presidency's activities in 2025 and a horizontal priority is multidimensional security. Both in its external and internal aspects. For me, as the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy, social security is particularly close to my heart ', said Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk in Brussels.

The priorities of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy are contained in three pillars:

1. The future of work in digital Europe,

Developments in technology are constantly influencing the labour market. Under the first priority, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy will work on ensuring fair and safe employment conditions during the digital transformation. We will undertake work on topics such as the right to disconnect, work-life reconciliation or OHS in the face of the digital revolution. We will also work on preparing appropriate support programmes for groups at risk of digital transformation. Work will also be undertaken towards strengthening social dialogue.

In order to strengthen European social dialogue, the European Commission has initiated work on the New Pact for European Social Dialogue. Polish Presidency supports this process and will follow up the work in order to submit the drafted text of the Declaration to the Council after its completion', said Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

2. Europe of equality, cohesion and inclusion,

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy will strive to ensure that the new EU agenda includes work towards creating an inclusive labour market and ensuring better social cohesion and decent social security for all EU citizens. Work is planned towards securing equality in the labour market and creating instruments to reconcile work and family life. There will also be a focus on supporting the labour market participation of people outside the labour market, such as people with disabilities or those who are economically inactive.

3.  Europe responding to the challenges of the silver transition.

The average age in Europe is steadily increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to develop solutions that will ensure social security during this so-called silver transition. As part of the Presidency of the EU Council, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy will undertake a discussion on creating effective incentives for seniors to remain active longer in the labour market and will work on ensuring a safe and dignified old age for all Europeans.

EPSCO Council

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy will chair the meetings of the Council in the EPSCO (Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council) format. This is a format in which ministers in charge of employment and social policy of the Member States participate. The next formal meeting of the Council under the Polish chairmanship will take place on 10 March in Brussels.
