Next year, the lowest old-age pension and disability pension will increase by at least PLN 250

18.10.2022

From March 2023, the lowest old-age pension and disability pension will amount to PLN 1,588.44. Then, these benefits are to increase by 13.8 percent, but no less than PLN 250. We seek not to make this indexation symbolic. The point is to ensure a decent life for the oldest generation, emphasised Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family and Social Policy.

W przyszłym roku najniższa emerytura i renta wzrośnie co najmniej o 250 zł

The government has started work on the indexation of all old-age and disability pensions for the next year. It plans to increase the lowest old-age pension and disability pension to PLN 1,588.44 (PLN 1,445.48 net), i.e. by 13.8 percent, provided that this increase cannot be lower than PLN 250.

We are building a strong Poland. A future based on a stable foundation, e.g. on the policy for seniors. We have committed ourselves to activate the oldest, while supporting them financially. Our support has a real impact on the situation of every senior in Poland. We make prudent decisions. Next year, we propose a percentage-amount indexation. We guarantee that from March 2023, pensions will increase by no less than PLN 250 – emphasised Minister Maląg.

Increase in benefits

Determining the indexation rate for old-age pensions and disability pensions at 113.8 percent means that the lowest old-age pension, disability pension, survivor’s pension, and social pension will increase in 2023 to PLN 1,588.44 from PLN 1,338.44.

The lowest pension for partial incapacity to work will increase to PLN 1,191.33 from PLN 1,003.83 in 2022.

Guaranteed increase amount

In 2023, the adoption of the percentage indexation principle with a guaranteed minimum increase of PLN 250 will result in a greater increase in benefits paid in the amount of up to PLN 1,811.60 per month (increase by PLN 250, i.e. by an amount higher than that resulting from the increase at the rate of 113.8 percent) than if indexation was carried out according to the currently applicable rules, i.e. only with the indexation rate, without the guarantee of an increase in the lowest benefits.

In 2023, we will allocate a record PLN 41.8 billion for the indexation of old-age pensions and disability pensions.

It is estimated that the financial effects of the additional costs resulting from the increase in the lowest old-age pension and disability pension to the amount of PLN 1,588.44 per month and the guarantee of increasing these pensions by no less than PLN 250 over the costs of statutory indexation at the forecast rate of 113.8 percent will amount to approx. PLN 2.3 billion in 10 months.

The actual indexation rate for old-age pensions and disability pensions will be known in the first half of February, after Statistics Poland announces the real values of inflation and the wage increase in 2022.
