When visiting the centre for disabled people in Biskupiec, Minister Marlena Maląg informed on the act introducing the support allowance adopted yesterday by the Council of Ministers. The allowance aims at empowerment of persons with disability to make them decide on how to use the received aid.

The Government adopted a draft act implementing the new support allowance for persons with disabilities. The allowance will amount from 50 to 200 percent of social pension. The Act will enter into force on 1 January 2024. The draft act provides also for the option of extra work for the caregivers, adding up to the care benefit, special attendance allowance or an allowance for a caregiver.

The Ministry of Family and Social Policy launched a hotline, via which all interested persons will obtain information both on the decisions to allocate support issued by the regional boards and on the support allowance itself – said Minister Maląg.

Hotline no. is 22 245-61-00. It is available from Monday to Friday between 8.00 AM and 5.00 PM.

The management of the Community Self-Aid Centre of the Polish Association for People with Intellectual Disability (PAPID), Branch in Biskupiec, benefits from the following programmes:  personal assistance of the disabled person and respite care. In 2020 – 2023 the Centre received more than PLN 2.23 million for implementation of these programmes from the Solidarity Fund.

The occupational therapy workshops carried out by PAPID in 2016-2022 were co-financed in the amount of PLN 7.63 million. The occupational therapy workshops in Biskupiec are among 72 workshops included into the pilot of the Workshop Operation Standards under the “Active disabled – independence support tools for persons with disabilities” project. The project value reaches nearly PLN 40 million.

Minister Marlena Maląg reminded also that as of the end of the last year there were 855 operating community self-aid centres with nearly 33 thousand places.

Our aim is to base support for persons with disabilities on the stabile pillars tailored to their individual needs – said Minister Maląg.

The Government of the United Right has been increasing the funds allocated to persons with disabilities and their caregivers on a regular basis. In 2023 we will allocate approx. PLN 40 billion compared to only PLN 15.5 billion in 2015. This amount is net of more than PLN 13 billion allocated to the system of education of persons with disabilities.

When describing the activities taken by the Government of Law and Justice, Minister Maląg addressed the words of St. John Paul II: The formulation of any policy is to serve people.
