Unemployment still low in October

07.11.2023

5% was the registered unemployment rate at the end of October, according to estimates of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy. The same result was recorded in the previous month, while the number of unemployed people fell by 3.8 thousand at that time, reports Minister Marlena Maląg.

Unemployment still low in October

Estimated by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, the registered unemployment rate at the end of October this year was 5%. Compared to the previous month, the unemployment rate was unchanged, and compared to the end of October 2022, it was 0.1 percentage points lower.

Fewer unemployed in registers of labour offices

Preliminary data from the Ministry of Family and Social Policy (MRiPS) shows that at the end of October this year, 772,200 unemployed people were registered in labour offices. This is 3,800 fewer than in September this year.

There were 23,800 fewer unemployed people on the unemployment register at the end of October this year than at the end of October 2022.

This is a very good information. Additionally, if we compare the level of unemployment at the end of October this year to that at the end of February 2020, just before the COVID-19 outbreak, the number of registered unemployed fell by 147,600 and the registered unemployment rate was 0.5% lower, points out the Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

The next few months, she adds, are likely to bring slight increases in unemployment, which is a natural result of the completion of some seasonal work.

Despite this, when comparing the figures with last year, as well as previous years, we have consistently recorded declines. This is the best indication of the good condition and stability of the labour market in Poland, which, thanks to the State protective measures, has proved resilient to crises related to both the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, emphasises Minister Marlena Maląg.

Poland at the forefront of the EU

Eurostat confirms: Poland still remains a country with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the European Union. According to data published at the beginning of November 2023, the unemployment rate in Poland (calculated according to the definition adopted by Eurostat) was 2.8% in September this year, compared to 6% in the EU and 6% in the EURO area.

Together with Malta, Poland ranked second for the lowest unemployment rate in the EU – just behind the Czech Republic (2.7%).
