We support mothers, we support families

26.05.2020

Today's Mother's Day is a great opportunity to thank mothers for the effort of motherhood. - It is a beautiful, but also a difficult and responsible role, which requires appropriate appreciation - says Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy. For this occasion, we have prepared an overview of programmes which support families and therefore they support the mothers.

Matka i dziecko

May 26th is a unique holiday.

- On Mother’s Day I wish all mothers good health, smile and pride in their children, regardless of their age. We know that motherhood is a great challenge - although obviously beautiful. The family is our priority, and the family is also a mother - stresses the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

Appreciate the efforts of parenting

The “Mother 4+” programme launched on March 1st, 2019 is one of the forms of honouring mothers. It is a supplementary parental benefit for those who have devoted themselves to bringing up four, five or more children and thus had to resign from professional career or had to limit their working hours below the threshold required to receive even the minimum pension.

- The “Mother 4+” programme is a manifestation of social solidarity and expresses the respect for the hard work they have put into bringing up many children. Today, we are not leaving them without help - says Minister Marlena Maląg.

By the end of March this year, the number of recipients of the supplementary parental benefit exceeded 55 thousand.

As pointed out by the Head of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, the “Pension+” programme is another example of support issued in the form of additional annual cash benefit for all pensioners which also aids women. This year, the support in the amount of the minimum pension, i.e. PLN 1200 was granted to 9.8 million people.

- Women are more likely to receive lower pensions, therefore this form of assistance is particularly important to them - indicates Minister Maląg.

Discounts for large families

We should also mention the Large Family Card, i.e. another form of support granted to families. It is a system of discounts granted by nearly 6.9 thousand partners in over 26 thousand locations throughout Poland. Since 2019, the Large Family Card was provided to all parents who have ever had at least three children.

Today, over 974,000 large families use the Large Family Card.

Mother at home, mother at work

We should also remember other programmes in support of families, which allow mothers to be more at ease and facilitating the reconciliation of family life with professional duties. These include “Family 500+”, “Good start” or “Toddler+”.

Since the beginning of the “Family 500+” programme, i.e. since April 2016, over PLN 108 billion has been allocated to Polish families. These funds allow families to invest in the future and fulfil their children's dreams.

The “Good Start” programme grants PLN 300 for each child in school. This support covers approximately 4.5 million school students and relieves the home budget of increased expenditures at the beginning of the school year.

The “Toddler+” programme on the other hand supports the development of institutions providing care to the youngest children by co-financing establishing new care institutions and supporting the existing ones. Since 2018, PLN 450 million have been allocated to the programme each year. The number of places increases each year due to the programme. Approximately 6.3 thousand care institutions for toddlers are currently active in Poland. The offer a total number of approximately 182.5 thousand care spots.
