The 'Working Holiday' Programme – Chile

On 27 July 2017, the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Republic of Chile on the 'Working Holiday' Programme, signed in Warsaw on 28 April 2017, entered into force.

Benefits of participating in the Programme

The ‘Working holiday’ Programme is aimed at young citizens of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Chile (aged 18 to 30 inclusive) and allows them to travel for up to one year, combining a holiday stay, allowing them to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the country they are visiting, with the possibility of taking up paid work, which is additional to the main tourist and cultural purpose of their stay.

Conditions for participation in the Programme

Citizens of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Chile who meet the following conditions may apply to participate in the Programme:

  • they have submitted a statement that they intend to stay in the host country in particular for the purpose of improving their knowledge of the language and culture, and that taking up gainful employment will not be the main purpose of their stay;
  • on the date of submitting their application, they are between eighteen (18) and thirty (30) years of age;
  • they are not accompanied by dependants;
  • they have a valid passport, issued no earlier than ten (10) years prior to the date of application for a visa, with at least two (2) blank pages, which will remain valid for at least three (3) months after the end of the planned stay;
  • they have a return ticket or sufficient financial means to purchase one;
  • they will present documents certifying that they have sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay, in an amount consistent with the relevant regulations in force in the host country;
  • they will pay the required fee for submitting and processing the visa application;
  • they have health insurance, as required by the relevant regulations in force in the host country, which will be valid for the entire duration of their stay;
  • they have not previously participated in the Programme;
  • they have submitted a certificate of no criminal record. 

Under the Agreement, the annual limit for visas under the Chile Working Holiday Programme is 200 (one hundred) visas.

Visa procedures for citizens of the Republic of Poland

Documents required to submit an application:

  • passport valid for at least one year
  • certificate of no criminal record
  • a recent colour photograph on a white background, without headgear or glasses
  • proof of sufficient financial means
  • confirmation of health insurance
  • confirmation of a return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase one

The application must be submitted via the SEMMIG Digital Procedures Portal, according to the requirements specified in the agreement. After logging in, please enter your personal details, then select ‘International Treaties’ and the ‘Working Holiday’ option.

Visa procedures for Chilean citizens

Citizens of the Republic of Chile planning to participate in the 'Working Holiday' Programme must submit their visa application to the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Santiago. Applications must be submitted in person.

Required documents:

  • visa application form completed in the e-Consulate system, printed and signed;
  • a written statement signed before the consul declaring the intention to stay in Poland for the purpose of learning the language and culture, and not for the purpose of taking up employment as the main objective;
  • proof of age (18-30 years old on the date of application);
  • a statement confirming that the applicant has no dependents;
  • a valid passport issued no earlier than 10 years prior to the date of application, with at least two blank pages and valid for at least 3 months after the planned end of the stay;
  • two recent photographs (35 x 45 mm);
  • return ticket or confirmation of financial means to purchase one (minimum PLN 2,500);
  • documents confirming sufficient funds to cover costs during the stay in Poland (minimum PLN 20 per day of stay, e.g. bank statement for the last 3 months or credit card);
  • confirmation of payment of the visa fee (USD 235, payable in cash at the Embassy);
  • proof of travel health insurance, valid for the entire period of stay, with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000;
  • statement of previous non-participation in the Programme;
  • a certificate of no criminal record certified with an apostille, issued by the Registry and Identification Office.

A national visa under the Programme is granted for a period of 12 months, with the right to multiple entries into the territory of the Republic of Poland. During this time, Programme participants may stay in Poland and take up gainful employment without the need to obtain a work permit. Participants in the Programme are required to comply with the laws of the Republic of Poland.
