The Department carries out the statutory responsibilities of the General Inspector of Financial Information (GIFI) such as acquiring, collecting, processing and analysing information and undertaking relevant actions aimed at counteracting money laundering and terrorist financing and along with GIFI it constitutes the Polish financial intelligence unit - FIU. Within the aforementioned scope the Department cooperates with national authorities as well as foreign institutions and international organizations.
