KRRiT's budget plan for 2026 receives positive opinion from Sejm committee
At today's meeting of the Sejm Committee on Culture, National Heritage and Media, Dr Agnieszka Glapiak presented the National Broadcasting Council's draft financial plan for 2026. The committee members unanimously approved the draft.
‘The Committee's positive opinion shows an understanding of the growing role and responsibility of the National Broadcasting Council in a rapidly changing media landscape. The budget plan for 2026 takes into account the Council's needs resulting from the new responsibilities imposed on it,' said Dr Agnieszka Glapiak, Chairperson of the National Broadcasting Council.
The budget and expenditure plan for 2026
KRRiT's expenditure for 2026 is planned at PLN 57,747,000, most of which will be allocated to the implementation of the KRRiT Office's statutory tasks.
The plan includes funds for the implementation of the National Broadcasting Council's constitutional powers, including ensuring freedom of speech, the independence of media service providers, citizens' right to information, and the protection of the public interest in radio and television. These activities include financing the licensing and control of broadcasters, as well as conducting the necessary analyses and research for the implementation of the Council's statutory tasks.
The plan for 2026 includes the creation of eight new full-time positions, which are intended to ensure the ongoing and timely performance of the KRRiT's duties. This increase is primarily due to changes in national and EU law, which impose new tasks and responsibilities on the Council.
NIK: KRRiT's resources are insufficient
It is worth noting that the Supreme Audit Office highlighted the need to strengthen KRRiT's resources in the context of its new responsibilities in its 2025 report. The NIK clearly indicated that it is essential to provide the National Council with adequate financial and human resources.
Digitisation and automation
During the committee meeting, the Chair of the National Broadcasting Council referred to the modernisation and automation of processes. She mentioned the necessary expenditure for this purpose, which includes the implementation of a modern monitoring system and an online reporting platform, as well as full digitisation.
It is worth noting that the National Broadcasting Council makes a significant annual contribution to the state budget. In 2025, it is expected that over PLN 51 million will be allocated to the budget, primarily through licence fees.
