Within two weeks, we passed a law providing a legal basis for the functioning of the system," said Deputy Minister Paweł Szefernaker during a press conference (16 March) at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. "We have information that at 3 p.m., 17 thousand PESEL numbers for adults and almost 15 thousand for children were issued. On average, during a typical working day, about 16 thousand numbers are issued at the office," informed Janusz Cieszyński, Government Plenipotentiary for Cyber Security.

A joint mass point organised by the Government and the Warsaw local government starts on Saturday at the National StadiumTomorrow (16 March), assigning PESEL numbers to Ukrainian citizens who fled the war will launch. “ We appeal to Ukrainian citizens not to rush to the offices on the first day. The Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Mr Andriy Deshchytsya, called for the same. The date of application will not affect the provision of support. Regardless of when the citizens of Ukraine go to the office, they are guaranteed legal protection from the day they arrive in Poland ,“ said Deputy Minister Paweł Szefernaker. The joint mass point organised by the Government and the Warsaw local government will start on Saturday at the National Stadium.

The new solutions will enter into force, as a rule, on the day of their publication in the Journal of Laws and will apply retroactively from 24 February 2022.
