Notification of the Commencement of Geological Works

The commencement of geological works must be preceded by a relevant notification.

Purpose of the notification

The purpose of the notification is to inform competent authorities about the planned commencement of geological works.

When is the notification required?

The notification should be submitted after the design of geological works is approved but before the geological works commence.

Elements of an application for the notification

The notification must be submitted in writing not later than 14 days before the intended commencement date of geological works and it must define the planned start and end dates of the geological works, the type of geological works, the basic data regarding the geological works, the full names of the supervisory and managing staff and the number of the certificates confirming the qualifications for the performance of those tasks.

The process

The competent authority registers the notification after receiving it but the notifying party does not receive any confirmation of the registration.

Duration of the process

Registration is performed within 30 days from the date the notification is submitted.

Authority competent for the notification

The intention to commence geological works must be notified to: the geological administration authority and the mayor, town mayor or city president, and, in the maritime areas of the Republic of Poland, to the local maritime administration authority, as well as to the mining supervision authority if the requirements concerning the operation of a mining plant apply to the geological works.

Additionally, the applicable laws provide for a requirement of informing, in writing, the local geological administration body and the national geological service (Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny – Państwowy instytut Badawczy) about any sampling intended as a part of geological works up to 14 days before the planned sampling date.
