Visas for participants of the Working Holiday Scheme
The legal basis for the Working Holiday Scheme a bilateral international agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of New Zealand signed in Warsaw on 9 May 2008.
In accordance with the agreement, Poland and New Zealand may issue up to 100 visas every calendar year to persons aged 18 to 30, both inclusive, allowing them to travel to Poland/New Zealand for a period of up to 12 months, with a primary intention to holiday and to deepen their knowledge of the language and culture of the other country with work as a secondary purpose and no work permit required.
As stipulated in the agreement:
- participants of the Working Holiday Scheme may not take up permanent employment with the same employer for longer than 3 months, and a single training course/temporary study opportunity that they take up may not last longer than 3 months;
- both Poland and New Zealand may reject any visa application made under the Working Holiday Scheme; they may also, in accordance with their respective country laws, refuse entry or expel individuals who have been granted a Working Holiday visa if they deem them undesirable.
Conditions for obtaining a Working Holiday visa to Poland
The Republic of Poland – at the request of a New Zealand citizen participating in the Working Holiday Scheme – will issue a visa for entry into the country within 12 months from its issue date to a person who meets all of the following conditions:
- is a New Zealand citizen;
- proves that the primary purpose of their stay is a holiday in Poland, with work as a secondary purpose;
- is between 18 and 30 years of age, both inclusive, on the date of application;
- is not accompanied by dependents;
- holds a New Zealand passport valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure;
- has a return ticket or the means to purchase one;
- has sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay in Poland (minimum PLN 20.00/day);
- has medical and travel insurance for the entire duration of their stay in Poland covering hospital care;
- complies with all the applicable health and safety requirements imposed by Poland.
Conditions for obtaining a Working Holiday visa to New Zealand
New Zealand – at the request of a New Zealand citizen participating in the Working Holiday Scheme – will issue a visa for entry into the country within 12 months from its issue date to a person who meets all of the following conditions:
- is a Polish citizen;
- proves that the primary purpose of their stay is a holiday in New Zealand, with work as a secondary purpose;
- is between 18 and 30 years of age on the date of application;
- is not accompanied by dependents;
- holds a valid Polish passport;
- has a return ticket or the means to purchase one;
- has sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay in New Zealand;
- pays an application fee;
- has medical and travel insurance for the entire duration of their stay in New Zealand covering hospital care;
- complies with all the applicable health and safety requirements imposed by New Zealand.
Working Holiday visa application procedure for New Zealand citizens
New Zealand citizens planning to participate in the Working Holiday Scheme must file a visa application with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Wellington following the procedure applicable to individuals planning to stay in Poland longer than 90 days (type-D national visa).
Required documents:
- a visa application form completed via the e-Konsulat system, printed and signed,
- a current (not older than 6 months) 3.5cm x 4.5cm colour photograph taken face-on, against a white background, with the face taking up 70-80% of the photo;
- a New Zealand passport issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure, with at least two blank visa pages, and a copy of the passport photo page;
- proof of medical and travel insurance with a coverage of minimum €30,000, valid for the entire stay duration in Poland (list of accepted insurers);
- evidence of sufficient funds to support the stay in Poland (at least PLN 20.00 or foreign currency equivalent per day of stay);
- a return ticket or the means to purchase one;
- documents relevant to the purpose of stay and itinerary in Poland;
- evidence of accommodation;
- statement of compliance with the conditions set out in Article 5 points (b), (d) and (i) of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of New Zealand on the Working Holiday Scheme of 9 May 2008, printed and signed (please use the form at the bottom of this page).
