Polish Aid Supporting More Efficient Agriculture in the Kilimanjaro Region
03.12.2025
This year, Polish Aid supported a project aimed at launching a modern irrigation system for the maize fields belonging to the Kilacha Agriculture & Livestock Training Centre (KALTC).
The project was coordinated by the Kilacha Agriculture & Livestock Training Centre (KALTC) in partnership with the Economic Foundation Poland–East Africa. It focused on increasing the efficiency of agriculture through the modernisation of the irrigation system used on the centre’s maize farm. This investment will enable more stable and systematic production of fodder for livestock, which is crucial in the context of irregular rainfall and ongoing climate change in Tanzania.
The upgraded irrigation system will expand the capacity of the existing infrastructure, allowing KALTC to strengthen practical skills in agricultural production among local farmers. As an important educational institution in the region, the centre plays a key role in preparing farmers to run modern, climate-resilient farms.
The project will benefit KALTC students and staff, local farmers, and the centre’s partners — including Kondiki Dairy, a milk and dairy production facility also supported by Polish Aid. The modernisation of the irrigation system will enhance the centre’s production capacity and contribute to building resilience within the local agricultural community in the Kilimanjaro region.
On 29 November, as part of the project’s monitoring activities, the Kilacha centre was visited by a representative of the Embassy of Poland in Dar es Salaam, Vice Consul Jakub Trzciński.
