Polish Heritage Days 2020

05.02.2020

The call for applications for the fourth edition of Polish Heritage Days (PHD) is now open! The theme of this year’s PHD is the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Polish Heritage Days

Following the success of last year’s PHD, which saw around 150 initiatives and around 40,000 participants, the Polish Embassy in the United Kingdom has opened a call for applications for the fourth edition of the initiative, which will be inaugurated on 2nd and 3rd of May. Every year, PHD sees a number of events, organised in May throughout the United Kingdom, which promote Polish culture, heritage of the past generations and the positive contribution made by the million members of the Polish diaspora to the cultural, economic and social life of the United Kingdom.

The deadline for applications for PHD project funding is on 1st of March. The results will be announced by 15th of March.

“It is this year that we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which was one of the most pivotal moments in the British history and a turning point in the Second World War. I strongly encourage all Polish and British organisations to take part in this year’s celebrations. If you have an idea for an event, activity, initiative or project celebrating Polish culture or the Battle of Britain, I urge you to get involved in PHD. I also encourage you to inform the local government and the local media about your projects to generate great interest among local communities,” said the Polish Ambassador to the UK Arkady Rzegocki.

The official symbol of the initiative is the red-and-white chequer board, which was the symbol of the Polish pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain and which, thanks to the Embassy’s efforts, has unofficially become the symbol of Poles in the UK. The social media campaign will include the hashtags: #PLHeritageDay and #PolesinUK.
