7th Polish Geothermal Congress

29.09.2021

On 28 September 2021, Vice-Ministers of Climate and Environment, Ireneusz Zyska and Piotr Dziadzio, attended the 7th Polish Geothermal Congress. The discussions focused on development of geothermal energy use in Poland.

Wiceminister klimatu i środowiska Ireneusz Zyska

As noted by Vice-Minister Piotr Dziadzio during the congress, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, has been implementing the priority programmes to co-fund the initiatives related among others with the new geothermal test wells, absorbing wells or construction of geothermal power plants in cooperation with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

We also cooperate with the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute, for example on the project aiming at assessment of the energy and resource capacity of thermal and healing waters at the selected urbanised areas

- he added.

The Vice-Minister of Climate and Environment Ireneusz Zyska emphasized that development and use of geothermal potential in Poland is one of the priority projects of the Strategy for Responsible Development.

Development of geothermal energy addresses the new vision and strategy of socio-economic development of Poland based on knowledge or innovative energy technologies

– said the Vice-Minister.

Vice-Minister Zyska pointed also out that the Ministry of Climate and Environment attribute large significance to increased use of renewable energy sources.

The geothermal energy is one of the components to complete implementation of the RES objective in the heating sector. The Polish Energy Policy until 2040 assumes gradual increase of geothermal energy share in the general heating system. The Strategy points also out that determination of geothermal capacity requires significant financial resources and is burdened with considerable uncertainty. Use of such sources has many advantages and constitutes and opportunity for development of local potential

– said the Vice-Minister.

This year’s programme of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management “Providing access to thermal waters in Poland” aiming at exploration and appraisal of thermal waters and elaboration of hydrogeological documentation of the allocated amount of PLN 229.2 million will include drilling of geothermal wells in 15 localities throughout the country.

These initiatives will allow exploration and appraisal of the thermal water resources that might become local resources for production of heating or even electrical energy

– stressed Vice-Minister Zyska.

The drillings will be made in Otwock, Żyrardów, Wołomin and Piastów (Mazovian Voivodeship), Gniezno and Wągrowiec Commune (Greater Poland Voivodeship), Łowicz (Lodz Voivodeship), Jasienica (Silesian Voivodeship), Smyków (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship), Dębno (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) and Oława, Trzebnica and Głuszyca (Lower Silesian Voivodeship).
