Baltic ministers confirm joint readiness to synchronise the electricity systems of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with the synchronous area of continental Europe

An official synchronisation ceremony will be held in Vilnius on 9 February.  The synchronisation of energy systems will be a historic step that will secure the energy systems of the Baltic States and their independence from Russia. Preparations for this operation have been ongoing for many years. Poland is implementing all the activities related to its safe course, both at the national (PSE S.A) and European levels (within ENTSO-E).

The synchronisation of the electricity systems of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with the synchronous area of continental Europe will increase energy security in the Baltic States and thus strengthen the integration of Europe's electricity systems. An uninterrupted electricity supply is crucial to the security of society and the functioning of the economy. Infrastructure resilience and protection has never been more important than it is today. The Russian Federation's deliberate destruction of the electricity grid in Ukraine and its hybrid actions in the Baltic demonstrate the importance of a properly secured electricity system for defence against the effects of war

- said Deputy Minister Krzysztof Bolesta who attended the meeting.

The ministers of energy from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia stressed that this is the most ambitious energy independence and regional security project undertaken jointly by the transmission system operators of the Baltic States and Poland.
The meeting also addressed the physical protection of energy infrastructure. As discussed, this aspect is particularly important in the context of the synchronous operation of the Baltic States' systems with that of Continental Europe.
