Climate Networking under the Norwegian and EEA Funds

Circular Economy in construction sector

On 18 and 19 October 2023, a mid-term event on the circular economy in the construction sector was held in Lisbon, organised by the Portuguese Environmental Programme Operator of the Norway Grants.

On the first day, representatives of 'green' Programmes in Europe under the Norway and EEA Grants had the opportunity to learn about projects implemented under the Programme:

  • CircularBuild project aims to explore alternative materials that will enable the reuse of waste generated materials from house deconstruction as a raw material for new houses, without compromising the building's performance in terms of energy efficiency.
  • PAB_LivingLab project is being implemented by the Loures municipality, where a number of pro-climate measures have been taken aimed at, among others, reducing the carbon footprint by investing in renewable energy in the space used by the local community and saving water by installing a smart park irrigation system.

During the second day of the event, there was an opportunity to learn about the circular projects implemented by the Portuguese beneficiaries of the Programme and presentations of the environmental and energy programmes of the Beneficiary Countries of the Norway and EEA Grants. Among the discussed topics, the most remarkable was a presentation of a World Bank representative who focused on the main challenges and opportunities for the construction sector in the framework of the water sector ( aforementioned presentation can be found on the event page and in the materials below).

There were also matchmaking events to share knowledge, good practices and experiences in the field of the Circular Economy.

A summary of the event is available on the Portuguese Programme Operator's website.
