24.01.2025

Combating misinformation, effective climate change communication and environmental education were the main issues addressed at an international meeting organised by the Ministry of Climate and Environment in co-operation with the European Commission. The two-day meeting aimed at exchanging experiences and good practices was attended by representatives of ministries, offices and NGOs of European Union countries.

Communicating in the European way

The meeting was an opportunity to share experiences and to discuss communication priorities. It was attended by representatives of the European Commission's Environment Directorate-General, the Climate Directorate-General, the European Environmental Bureau and the European Environment Agency, as well as representatives of communication departments of foreign offices specialising in energy, climate and the environment.

The meeting covered topics such as:
•    priorities of Poland's presidency in the Council of the European Union,
•    recognising disinformation and fake climate news and the ways of counteracting them,
•    target groups in the communication of environmental and climate policy,
•    communication of issues concerning transition towards a circular economy.

The participants discussed the need to combat climate misinformation by co-operating with the media, journalists and publishers, as well as working on projects engaging local communities.

The spread of disinformation requires rapid and constructive solutions, and artificial intelligence can play an important role in their development

- said Hubert Różyk, Director in the Department of Education and Communication at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

Over the coming months, Poland will preside over the Council of the European Union.  Security, competitiveness of economies, adaptation to climate change and combating disinformation are the watchwords of Poland’s presidency

- added Hubert Różyk.

The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange experiences between representatives of EU ministries and to plan joint activities.
