IEP-NRI - Decarbonization of construction sector

Circular Economy

The Minister of Climate and Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs about the conclusion of a contract for co-financing the project Decarbonization of construction sector – bringing zero carbon footprint natural building materials into the circular economy.
The project is conducted by the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute (IEP-NRI).

About the project

The project obtained co-financing in the call for proposals Strengthened implementation of Circular Economy under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The project is co-financed in 85% by the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (of which 85% comes from the EEA Financial Mechanism and 15% from the national budget).

The total cost of the project is over EUR 1 M (about PLN 4.5 M), of which the maximum amount of co-financing is over EUR 870 000 (over PLN 3.8 M).

The aim of the project is to develop and popularise natural building in Poland, which is based on local and low-processed materials and provides an alternative to construction based on bricks-and-mortar technologies. The project includes the development of curricula for vocational schools and universities, a guide for investors with a catalogue of natural buildings and the construction of a demonstration building. The project will provide the basis for a future education and research centre in the area of CE and natural materials.

Partnership

The project is being implemented in cooperation with Poznań University of Live Sciences and National Natural Building Association.

Implementation period

The agreement for the funding was signed on 25th May 2022, and the conclusion date is scheduled for April 2024.
