Forest management should be carried out in a sustainable way, nevertheless, the solutions proposed by the European Union raise our serious doubts and must be subjected to a deeper analysis in the international forum.

– said Deputy Minister Edward Siarka.

Sweden is a country with the high forest cover rate, where forests occupy as much as 63% of the area. The higher CO2 absorption targets set by the European Union do not take into account many conditions specific to individual states, related, inter alia, to the ageing of tree stands. Deputy Minister Siarka stressed the importance of cooperation and dialogue to ensure proper nature conservation along with the economic development.

The current crisis related to the war in Ukraine will certainly result in enormous costs for the EU economy and our citizens, which we must estimate now. Without such analysis and reflection, it will not be possible to assess our real opportunities to implement climate policy goals.

– added Deputy Minister Siarka.
