Deputy Minister Guibourgé-Czetwertyński at the “Śląski Ład” (“Śląsk New Deal”) conference
12.07.2021
The safety of Polish energy and raw materials in the era of European Green Deal and Polish New Deal was the theme of the “Sląski Ład” (“Śląsk New Deal”) conference held on 12 July 2021, attended by the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.
Deputy Minister Guibourgé-Czetwertyński underlined that the energy safety consists mainly of the safety of raw materials and the security of energy deliveries to the recipients.
With respect to the security of energy deliveries, the key issue involves establishing the new power engineering system. Over 70% of power output installed in the national power energy system is older than 30 years, which requires the reconstruction of power and providing the coverage of the demand for electrical energy. Investments in new energy outputs are required
– he said.
He added that sources which utilise wind and solar power ensure zero-emission energy delivery and their unit variable cost is lower in comparison to carbon-based technologies.
At the same time, these sources are dependent on atmospheric conditions, which require balancing through disposable reserves, and working with energy storage systems in the future. This proves the importance of the transitional role of sources which utilise natural gas for balancing the system; in later years, the system may be exchanged by decarbonised gasses, such as biomethane and hydrogen
– the Deputy Minister added.
Considering the technical and economic capabilities and the expected rate of decrease of the technology investment costs, we assess that the measures planned under the “Polish Energy Policy Until 2040” are going to cause that by 2030, one per three MWh is going to be generated from RES, while in 2040, the zero-emission sources are going to account for today's share of carbon-based sources. Nuclear power is going to play a key role in that respect
– he stressed.
The Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński, we need to find the right balance between energy security, ensuring the competitiveness of the economy and environmental protection.
Every technology has its advantages and disadvantages. The anticipated energy balance presented in the Polish Energy Policy Until 2040 is a compromise which takes into consideration the needs and interests of all the parties and does not allow to leave anyone behind
– he summarised.
