Deputy Minister Ireneusz Zyska on the offshore wind power

09.06.2021

The development and financing of offshore wind energy is the main topic of the discussions during the conference Opinion Market: Offshore Wind Power in Poland. The event, which took place on 9 June 2021, was attended by Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Ireneusz Zyska.

Wiceminister klimatu i środowiska Ireneusz Zyska

As the Deputy Minister Zyska emphasised, offshore wind energy was one of the answers to the need to implement the climate policy of the European Union and the European Green Deal.

In the strategy paper – Energy Policy of Poland until 2040, as well as in the National Energy and Climate Plan for 2021–2030, the importance of developing offshore wind power as a condition for achieving the planned increase in the use of renewable sources in Poland was highlighted. It is estimated that the installed capacity of offshore wind farms will reach 5.9 GW in 2030 and 11 GW in 2040,

he said.

As the deputy minister pointed out, offshore will be an important aspect of the Polish industry, which will certainly have decisive impact on the future of the Polish economy.

Offshore wind energy is also an important part of the National Reconstruction Plan and the Resilience Facility. This financial support will ensure the efficient development of the offshore wind energy sector, including seaports and Polish companies producing and providing services for offshore wind farms,

he said.

The implementation of investments planned, among others, in the framework of the National Reconstruction Plan, is a prerequisite for creating a development impulse for the economy and for achieving a large share of Polish companies in the supply of components and materials for the offshore wind energy,

he added.

Deputy Minister also pointed out that in February 2021, the Act on promoting electricity generation in offshore wind farms entered into force.

Its aim is to exploit the potential of wind energy in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea and to create a legal framework for providing long-term support to stakeholders in the development of the offshore wind energy sector in Poland,

he said.

During the meeting, the deputy minister noted that a sectoral agreement is planned to be signed at the turn of July and August.

The aim of the sectoral agreement is to maximize the Polish local contribution to the development of the offshore wind power. I believe that this is the beginning of works on the development of the entire offshore industry,

he stressed.
