Deputy Minister Jacek Ozdoba has summarised the first two weeks of the operation of the form for reporting environmental crimes

06.07.2021

Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Jacek Ozoba informed about the first reports of suspected environmental crimes during the press conference held on July 6th, 2021.

wiceminister klimatu i środowiska Jacek Ozdoba

During the conference, the Minister has brought forth two examples of crimes reported through the form during the initial two days of its operation.

Just over a dozen days ago, a form allowing to anonymously report a suspected environmental crime was launched on the website of the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection. We have received 134 such reports in just 2 weeks. One example includes Śląskie Voivodeship – the report allowed to catch a suspect who was trying to illegally dispose of 47 200 litre barrels of hazardous waste. Another case - just a day after the information about the form was published in the media, we have received information about illegal storage of 26 Mauser-type containers. This shows the large extent of the occurrence

– Deputy Minister Ozdoba said.

The Deputy Minister of Climate and the Environment has explained, that after an anonymous report made through www.gios.gov.pl, the Department for Counteracting crime coordinates such case with the Police, local governments and Voivodeship Inspectors for Environmental Protection.

We has seen concrete effects of these activities in just two weeks, as we continue to receive further information. That is why I wish to thank the media in particular, as they allowed to disseminate the information about the new tool used for the fight against environmental crime. Illegal waste disposal, in particular regarding hazardous waste is a difficult issue for the environment and the local governments. We want to penalise the persons who cause environmental degradation through illegal activities, and we continue to count on your help in spreading the information about this matter

– the Deputy Minister added.
