Half a billion PLN for a modern grid: Energa and Tauron with a massive cash injection from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan

30.03.2026

A further half a billion PLN from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan will be used to modernise Poland's electricity grid. Thanks to strategic agreements signed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM) with Energa-Operator and Tauron Dystrybucja, the Polish energy sector will undergo a technological leap that will enable the construction of smart infrastructure and a significant increase in connection capacity for RES.

Leszek Kosiorek, Chairman of the Tauron Dystrybucja Management Board, Krzysztof Bolesta, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, President of the Management Board of the NFEP&WM and Józef Matysiak, Vice-President of the Management Board of the NFEP&WM. The above-mentioned individuals are seated next to each other at a table, with folders containing documents and pens placed in front of them. Behind them, a presentation screen is visible, displaying the slogan: “Strengthening energy security. Nearly PLN 34 million from the National Recovery Plan for TAURON Dystrybucja S.A.”.

Highlights

  • Over PLN 500 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) will be allocated to the modernisation of the distribution networks of Energa-Operator and Tauron Dystrybucja.
  • Energa-Operator will receive PLN 470 million for the development of smart infrastructure and increasing the capacity to connect renewable energy sources.
  • Energa’s project will cover 250 km of lines, 17,400 substations, the capacity to connect 262 MW of RES and reduce energy losses.
  • Energa’s investments will be realised in eight voivodships, mainly in rural areas.
  • Tauron Dystrybucja will receive PLN 33.6 million for the modernisation of networks in five voivodships in southern Poland.
  • Both projects strengthen energy security, the development of renewable energy sources and the quality of energy supply in the country.

The funding agreements were signed by the president of NFEP&WM, Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, and her deputy, Józef Matysiak, as well as representatives of the beneficiaries: on behalf of Energa-Operator, vice-president Marek Pszonka and director of the Finance and Regulation Division Karolina Błaszak-Lasota, and, on behalf of Tauron Dystrybucja, Leszek Kosiorek, Chairman of the Management Board, and Maciej Mróz, Vice-Chairman of the Management Board for Operator Affairs.

PLN 470 million for the modernisation of the Energa-Operator network

Energa-Operator will receive PLN 470 million from the NRRP to expand smart energy infrastructure. The project, worth PLN 772 million, will mainly cover rural areas in eight voivodships.

The investment will result in 250 km of new or modernised lines, 17,434 power stations, the capacity to connect 262 MW of RES power, and a reduction in energy losses of 210 MWh per year. The modernised network will be adapted to the distributed structure of consumers and generators and will also gain increased resilience to weather events and the challenges of the energy transition.

PLN 33.6 million from the NRRP for investments by Tauron Dystrybucja

Tauron Dystrybucja will receive PLN 33.6 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to implement a network modernisation programme in the south of the country. The project, worth PLN 55.1 million, comprises 16 investment tasks across five voivodships: Małopolskie, Śląskie, Dolnośląskie, Opolskie and Podkarpackie. Work will be carried out in over a dozen municipalities, including Strumień, Pawłowice, Trzebinia, Chrzanów, Niemodlin, Grodków, Oborniki Śląskie, Tuchów and Dąbrowa Tarnowska. The investment will strengthen the distribution infrastructure, improve the quality of energy supply and support the development of renewable energy sources in the region.

The agreements signed significantly accelerate the modernisation of the electricity infrastructure, enhancing security of supply and the potential for integrating RESs.
