Informal videoconference of EU Environment and Climate Ministers

Economic recovery in the context of the energy transformation and the European Green Deal were the key topics discussed during the video conference of EU environment and climate ministers, which took place between July 13th and 14th of 2020. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Climate Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

The conference participants stressed, that the European Green Deal is one of the cornerstones of the European Union's exit strategy from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Economic recovery should strengthen the green and fair transition. In light of the current difficult situation, we wish to invest even more in energy efficiency, renewable energy, research and innovation as drivers of economic recovery from the perspective of the energy sector - said the Deputy Minister of Climate Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

We also need to consider the differences between the challenges in different sectors and regions, so as to remain flexible in adapting actions to the needs identified in each sector and Member State. – added the Deputy Minister.

During the videoconference, Ministers also discussed the use of digital technologies in support of climate and environmental protection.

Poland supports the digital transition as a key element of the Recovery Plan, but it should be carried out in such a way that it is socially inclusive, helps to close the gap and restores market balance. At the same time, we need to benefit from the digital transition in line with the needs of low and zero-carbon industry – stressed the Secretary of State.

The key priorities for economic recovery, i.e. European Green Governance and Digitisation, must complement each other – he added.

The conference also discussed one of the priority topics of the German EU Presidency - the draft regulation on the European Union's budget. European climate law in the context of the EU's pursuit of climate neutrality.

Prior to the informal videoconference of EU environment and climate Ministers, Deputy Minister of Climate Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński held a working consultation under the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4) with his counterparts from V4 and Bulgaria and Romania.
