- Both in Poland and in the Czech Republic, forests occupy about 30% of the country. We must establish close cooperation in the European policy important for both countries – said Deputy Minister Edward Siarka at the meeting with the representative of the Czech government.

The subject of the talks between the Government Plenipotentiary for Forestry and Hunting, Edward Siarka and the Deputy Minister at the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, Patrik Mlynář, were the challenges and threats to forestry in the light of the climate and energy policy of the European Union.

We can see a number of common problems on which we should jointly put a strong emphasis and solve them during further work on the amendment to LULUCF

– stressed Deputy Minister Edward Siarka.

Also the issues related to the draft regulation regarding deforestation and forest degradation, as well as the Forest Strategy, were discussed. The Czech Republic reports a number of reservations to the European Union’ proposal.

Bearing in mind the „Fit for 55” package, we should take into account the current situation in Ukraine which is unprecedented and will entail a need to redefine our energy policy. Currently, additional burdens under the climate package are therefore unacceptable

– added Deputy Minister Siarka.
