Minister Anna Moskwa: Polish households will not run short of gas

27.04.2022

“Poland holds necessary gas reserves and sources of supply which protect our security, because for years we have been becoming effectively independent of Russia. Our storage facilities are full in 76%. Polish households will not run short of gas” stressed the Minister of Climate and Environment, Anna Moskwa, during a press conference held on 26 April 2022 at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

Minister Anna Moskwa

As Minister Anna Moskwa emphasised, Poland pursues a policy based on energy security of the country, which allowed to avoid falling into the trap of being dependent on raw materials from Russia.

Gaz-System implements a strategy of diversification, i.e. differentiation of directions and sources of gas supplies to Poland and the option assuming that Russian supplies will be cut off has been prepared and is already being implemented. This is the option in which all existing gas consumers in Poland will receive this raw material at the level at which they have received it so far

- said the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Piotr Naimski.

Recent years and intense, consistent efforts leading to the diversification of supplies allow us to feel safe. They also include investments in gas infrastructure

– said Minister Moskwa.

The Head of the Ministry of Climate and Environment also pointed out that all gas needs of Poland can be satisfied from other sources.

Thanks to infrastructure investments, such as the Baltic Pipe or connections with other Member States, the Polish gas system, as one of few systems in the European Union, is able to completely abandon the supplies from Russia.

– she concluded.

As Minister Moskwa pointed out, LNG itself supplies the market sufficiently and its share is constantly growing.

The high effectiveness of the solutions adopted in Poland is evidenced by, inter alia, the fact that from 2015 to 2021 the share of LNG in the import increased significantly, reaching in the previous year the level of more than 20% of total import of natural gas to our country.

– she said.

LNG supplies in Świnoujście are growing – in 2015, there was only one, in 2021 there were already 35 of them. As of today, Gaz System envisages about 50 supplies. Since the launch of the LNG Terminal, 160 gas carriers have arrived in Poland

– she added.
