25.06.2020

On Thursday, Polska Grupa Energetyczna launched two new wind farms, encompassing a total of 43 turbines with an installed capacity of 97.18 MW.

The “Starza/Rybice” wind farm was established in Kamień Pomorski District and consists of 33 turbines, with a capacity of 2 MW per turbine. The second investment – the “Karnice II” wind farm – is the most modern wind power plant operated by the PGE Energia Odnawialna Group. It is located in Gryfice district and consists of 10 turbines, offering the capacity of 2.2 MW per turbine. Both wind farms won auctions in 2018 to sell wind or solar power with an installation capacity of over 1 MW.

The Ministry of Climate, which is responsible for preparing legislative solutions for the auction system, points out that as a result of the 2018 auction, approximately 1100 MW of new capacity installed in the onshore wind sector will be created.  Based on the results of the 2019 auction, this figure will go up to approximately 2300 MW. In addition, the sale of electricity generated in new RES installations in the auction system is also planned in 2020. According to the Ordinance of the Council of Ministers of 31 December 2019 on the maximum quantity and value of energy from renewable energy sources, which may be sold on auctions in 2020, thanks to the auctions this year, the establishment of wind power plants with a capacity of about 800 MW is planned among a number of investments this year. Thus, for the period 2018-2020, the available volume for wind power plants was envisioned at a level of about 4,000 MW and is expected to be contracted in full.

The Ministry of Climate is also working on the possibility of extending the period of support under the auction system.

“At this moment we are working on an amendment to the RES Act, which will later go on to inter-ministerial consultations. I believe that after the summer break, the new act will be adopted by parliament and will become the law. We would like to extend the period of support by five years, as the Directive allows us to do, in consultation with the European Commission. Now we can offer support thanks to the auction system until mid-2021, and we intend to extend it by another five years, to 2026. I think this is important information,” said Vice-Minister of Climate Ireneusz Zyska, Government Plenipotentiary for RES.
