Poland achieves 50% of its power from renewable energy sources - a historic breakthrough!

17.02.2026

The Polish energy sector has just crossed a historic threshold. At the end of 2025, the share of RES in installed capacity exceeded 50%. For the first time in history, the share of energy produced from renewable sources exceeded 30% for the entire year.

Poland achieves 50% of its power from renewable energy sources – a historic breakthrough!

Highlights

  • At the end of 2025, the share of renewable energy sources in Poland's installed capacity was 50.04%.
  • The total capacity of renewable energy installations at the end of December was 37,777 MW.
  • Energy production from RES is also growing – in 2025, almost 55,000 GWh of energy came from renewable sources, which is 31.41% of the electricity produced in Poland.
  • Over the course of five years, the share of energy from RES in total production increased from 17.83% in 2020 to 31.41% in 2025, which means that almost every third kilowatt-hour produced in Poland came from RES.

We have reached a turning point in the development of RES in Poland! For the first time in history, the share of renewable energy sources in the installed capacity of our country has exceeded 50%. At the end of December 2025, it was exactly 50.04%. Furthermore, the share of RES in Poland's electricity production reached a record 31.41% in 2025! Polish renewable sources produced almost 55,000 GWh!

Polish energy sector accelerates huge growth in renewable energy capacity

In recent years, the development of renewable energy sources in Poland has clearly gained momentum. The changes that took place between 2020 and 2025 show how quickly the importance of green energy in the power system is growing.

According to data from the Energy Market Agency, in 2020, renewable energy installations accounted for 24.12% of installed capacity, with a total capacity of 12,490 MW. In 2025, RES capacity increased to 37,777 MW, which means more than a threefold increase in a very short time.

Such dynamic growth meant that in 2025, half of all installed capacity in Poland came from renewable energy sources. This is a huge change, which shows how quickly green energy is becoming one of the pillars of the national system.

The greatest growth was recorded by technologies that have developed most rapidly in recent years. Solar power plants increased their capacity from 3,960 MW to as much as 24,808 MW, and wind power plants from 6,402 MW to 10,550 MW.

Record RES production confirms the scale of the transition

Parallel to the growing capacity of installations, the production of energy from RES is also increasing significantly. In 2020, renewable sources generated 28,173 GWh of electricity. Five years later, in 2025, this figure had risen to 54,743 GWh – almost twice as much!

Such a large increase also translated into a change in the structure of the entire national energy production. The share of green energy increased from 17.83% in 2020 to 31.41% in 2025. This means that last year, almost every third kilowatt-hour produced in Poland came from RES.

This is not only a record result, but above all clear evidence of a real and measurable transformation of the Polish energy sector.
