On 13 August 2026, the Chief National Geologist of Poland, Krzysztof Galos, met with Deputy Minister Isabella Chan, a senior official from the Natural Resources Canada. The talks centred on cooperation in the field of critical raw materials.
Highlights:
- Critical raw materials play a key role in ensuring economic security and the development of modern technologies.
- Poland is developing international cooperation on raw materials to ensure an uninterrupted supply of the raw materials essential to the Polish economy. It also actively participates in efforts to strengthen raw materials security within the EU.
- Poland and Canada are working closely together on a number of fronts to safeguard the needs of sectors critical to the economy and defence.
The meeting forms part of the joint efforts by Poland and Canada aimed at strengthening the security of supply of critical raw materials, particularly for defence, aviation, the space sector, the energy sector and digital technologies.
The main focus of the meeting was on specific opportunities for cooperation between Poland and Canada, which, as a reliable partner with significant reserves of critical raw materials, can play a key role in supporting the Polish and EU economies.
Critical raw materials are currently at the heart of debates on economic security, and raw materials policy must be formulated with the specific needs of national industry in mind. Poland and the EU need reliable partners, such as Canada, to meet the needs of sectors that are strategic for the energy and digital transitions, mobility and security
– said Krzysztof Galos, Chief National Geologist and Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment
The meeting was also attended, online, by representatives of the geological surveys from both countries: the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute and the Geological Survey of Canada, who are working on joint Polish-Canadian scientific and exploration projects.
