Poland and Norway intend to cooperate on CCUS technologies

The Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Krzysztof Bolesta and the Norwegian Ambassador to Poland, Øystein Bø discussed the Green Transformation Programme implemented under the EEA Financial Mechanism and cooperation in the development of the CO2 emission reduction technology - CCUS in Poland.

Poland and Norway intend to cooperate on CCUS technologies

Highlights:

  • The Ministry of Climate and Environment is currently developing the Green Transformation Programme Concept to be implemented under the so-called Norwegian Funds in the Fourth Financial Perspective for 2021-2028.
  • Norway is developing technologies to reduce emissions of CO2 by its separating from industrial or energy sources and then using it in various applications or safe underground storage.
  • In the coming years, Poland intends to make extensive use of the world's best practice of the CCUS technology, i.e. CO2 capture, utilisation and storage, to reduce emissions resulting from international commitments.
  • The Norwegian experience will be used in the Green Transformation Programme to strengthen administrative and institutional capacity and raise awareness of CCUS technologies.

The discussions focused on the planned scope of the Green Transformation Programme and issues that need to be further agreed between the Polish and Norwegian party. The Donors' ambition in the current perspective is to finance activities that contribute to the strategic shift towards emission reduction.

Deputy Minister, Krzysztof Bolesta also presented the progress of work on the strategy for the development of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies and the Norwegian party expressed its interest in organising a workshop in Poland in this scope.
