“USA is our main partner in the field of energy, and cooperation with the United States in this area is of strategic importance to us” – emphasised Deputy Minister of Climate Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński during a meeting with Wilbur Ross, U.S. Secretary of Commerce. The deputy minister of climate pointed out that Poland considers that the transition to a low-carbon economy should be evolutionary.

“In addition to the transition itself, it is also important to ensure the independence and energy security of the country, its sustainable economic development and maintain the competitiveness of manufactured products” – he said.

The Government plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure Piotr Naimski, who was present at the meeting, emphasised that Poland has been consistently implementing its policy of increasing energy independence by diversifying sources, directions and suppliers of natural gas.

The deputy minister of climate noted that in the context of security of gas supply, Poland pays great attention to cooperation with the USA, including in the field of LNG supplies. As added by Minister Naimski, the USA is an important guarantor of energy security in the region of Central and Eastern Europe.

“Contracts for the supply of liquefied natural gas, signed in 2017–2019, are a tangible expression of developing cooperation” – added Minister Naimski.

Cooperation in the field of nuclear energy

During a conversation with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure Piotr Naimski also pointed out that nuclear energy is to be an important element of the Polish energy mix in the context of challenges which Poland is facing as a result of the EU's energy and climate policy goals.

“Poland is interested in deepening bilateral strategic cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and developing cooperation in this area between companies from Poland and the USA” – he noted.

Wind energy development

As Deputy Minister of Climate Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński emphasised, offshore wind energy is also a strategic project for Poland as part of the energy sector's low carbon transition.

“Poland conducts intensive activities in this area, resulting in the preparation of a draft law on the promotion of electricity generation in offshore wind farms. Its goal is to create optimal conditions for the development of this sector” – he said.

“We are open to foreign investors ready to invest in offshore projects in Poland” – added Minister Naimski.

Polish-American cooperation

Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński, Deputy Minister of Climate, also noted that the development of energy dialogue between Poland and the USA is going very well.

“Our cooperation in the field of energy has great potential, as evidenced by the presence of Minister Naimski at today’s meeting. We hope that fruitful cooperation of both countries at the administrative level will translate into an even broader development of business cooperation, mainly in the field of natural gas and nuclear energy” – he said.
