Polish-Serbian talks on energy transition

26.01.2022

Energy transition and potential areas of Polish-Serbian cooperation are among the subjects of the meeting between the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Piotr Dziadzio and a group of parliamentarians from the Republic of Serbia. The talks were held on 25 January 2022 at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

Polish-Serbian talks on energy transition

Deputy Minister Piotr Dziadzio pointed out that both countries are facing fundamental changes with regard to energy transition. According to the Deputy Minister, there is a strong potential for future Polish-Serbian cooperation in this area.

We see the intense efforts made by Serbia in the field of transition to a low-carbon energy sector. We understand how great this undertaking is, as Poland, just like Serbia, is currently facing breakthrough changes in this area, and it is a necessity for both countries to build a new energy system in the next 20 years.

– he said.

The Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment stressed that the “Energy Policy of Poland until 2040” adopted by Poland will put us on the path towards achieving climate neutrality pursuant to the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Thanks to PEP2040, we will achieve the goals of decarbonisation in a rational and responsible way which will not lead to an excessive burden on household budgets, deepening difficulties in satisfying energy needs, weakening the economy or degrading the industry.

– he noted.

He added that Poland wants to use the opportunities brought by diversified sources, including the use of: offshore wind energy, increased use of RES technology, construction of nuclear power plants and the development of electromobility, hydrogen mobility and emission-free public transport.

The implementation of PEP2040 will lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as a thorough improvement in the air quality, reduction in pollutant emissions, and thus to an increase in the quality of life of society

– he added.

Poland also declared its support and readiness to deepen cooperation with Serbia, also, inter alia, during the EU accession process.

Polish enterprises and companies can offer Serbia their valuable support and knowledge gained in recent years, including in the use of renewable energy sources. The implementation of this cooperation may take place as part of the “Polish Support for Climate” programme, implemented by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The Fund will co-finance projects implemented by Polish entities in cooperation with partners from a number of countries, including Serbia.

– stressed the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Piotr Dziadzio.
