Polish-Slovenian talks about the climate

22.02.2021

Energy and climate policy, electromobility and nuclear energy were the main themes of the ministerial meeting of Michał Kurtyka and Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński with the Slovenian delegation chaired by the Slovenian Minister of Infrastructure Jernej Vrtovec. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the agenda and priorities of the Slovenian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Polish-Slovenian talks about the climate

Just before the Slovenian presidency of the Council, legislative proposals will be published to make significant changes to the architecture of the European Union’s climate policy. The package will address a wide range of climate policy issues: from renewable energy sources to energy efficiency, construction, energy taxes or emissions trading.

I would like to assure you of the full support from Poland in the activities related to the Slovenian presidency of the Council of the European Union. We welcome the fact that during the Slovenian presidency, the integration of nuclear power into a sustainable taxonomy will be discussed, said Minister of Climate and Environment, Michał Kurtyka.

In line with the Energy Policy of Poland until 2040, Poland envisages having in use 6 blocks of 6-9 GWe until 2043. The development of nuclear energy is also an important issue for the Slovenian side. Both countries see in this field an area for cooperation and exchange of experience. The same applies to the development of electromobility, which is also an important element for Slovenia in shaping the country’s climate policy. In this context, we have similar objectives and assumptions, which gives the chance of establishing Polish-Slovenian cooperation.

The development of electromobility in Poland and other EU countries is evident, but we believe that additional instruments are needed to increase the dynamics of this process, emphasised Deputy Minister Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

Meeting with the Slovenian delegation covered also issues related to the reform of the ETS and the ESR on what concerns the implementation of the new EU 2030 reduction target.
