Highlights

  • Poland and Mongolia have expressed their willingness to continue cooperation in the field of geology through joint projects and international agreements, including those implemented at the level of geological services.
  • During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Krzysztof Galos discussed with the delegation of the Mongolian-Polish Parliamentary Group of the Great State Khural of Mongolia possible areas of cooperation at the level of our countries’ geological services.

The meeting, attended by the management of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PGI-NRI) and representatives of Mongolian industry, took place on 13 April 2026 in Warsaw. When opening the talks, Deputy Minister Krzysztof Galos emphasised that Mongolia is an important economic partner for Poland in Central Asia.

Polish geologists were already cooperating and conducting joint research in Mongolia as early as the 19th century, and have been particularly active since the 1960s

– said Deputy Minister Galos.

Today, cooperation takes place at the level of our countries’ geological surveys. In 2021, a cooperation agreement was signed between them. It paved the way for a joint exploration and research project in southern Mongolia. The joint research focuses on assessing Mongolia’s mineral resource potential, particularly in the area of so-called critical minerals.

Krzysztof Szamałek, Director of PGI-NRI, outlined the activities of the Polish Geological Institute which could be developed in cooperation with a Mongolian partner. In addition, Stanisław Mikulski, Deputy Director of PIG-PIB for Research and Scientific Support to the State Geological Service, provided an update on the project currently underway in Mongolia.

Jargalsaikhan Zoljargal, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group, outlined possible areas of cooperation. Ambassador Oyundari Navaan-Yunden emphasised the desire to further strengthen good Polish-Mongolian relations and to build lasting ties between our two countries.
