Highlights

  • Poland and Canada see great potential in developing cooperation on raw materials, including investments in oil, gas and copper deposits.
  • Critical raw materials are essential for economic and technological security, and their stable supply is a strategic priority.
  • Both countries want to strengthen geological cooperation, including the exchange of data and experience and the development of resilient supply chains.

During talks held on 19 February 2026 in Warsaw, it was emphasised that Canada remains one of Poland's most important strategic partners for the energy sector, raw materials and advanced energy technologies. This cooperation plays a key role in strengthening economic security and supporting the energy transition.

Cooperation with Canada is of strategic importance for Poland, both in terms of raw material security and the development of modern technologies

– Deputy Minister Krzysztof Galos pointed out.

Poland and Canada are showing growing interest in deepening economic cooperation, particularly in sectors that are key to raw material security. During the meeting, the parties discussed investment projects in the field of crude oil and natural gas, as well as issues related to copper deposits. The talks focused on the exchange of experiences, the identification of potential areas of cooperation and the determination of directions for further joint action.

Deputy Minister Krzysztof Galos also presented the assumptions of Poland's national raw materials policy, including activities related to critical raw materials implemented at the national and European level. He emphasised that critical raw materials are an important element of economic security, the development of modern technologies and energy transition, and that their stable procurement and effective use are key to building the strategic resilience of the state.

The parties agreed on the significant potential for developing bilateral investment cooperation in the raw materials sector, including both Polish investments in Canada and Canadian investor involvement in Poland. The opportunities for creating joint, resilient and diversified supply chains covering the entire cycle – from prospecting and extraction, through processing, to the use of raw materials in modern technologies – were emphasised.

The role of Canada as an important partner in developing secure and competitive global supply chains for critical raw materials was also emphasised. In this context, the development of cooperation between the geological services of both countries was considered important. The exchange of knowledge, data and experience was identified as the foundation for long-term projects and investments supporting the economic development and raw material security in both countries.
