04.11.2020

The political and economic programmes for energy transformation and climate change mitigation in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic were the main topics of the 3rd Franco-German Energy Forum. The event, which took place on 3 November 2020, was attended by Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

During the panel entitled "Challenges and prospects for cooperation on energy policy in the Weimar Triangle", the Deputy Minister emphasised that Poland sees the European Green Deal as a growth strategy and development opportunities for the economies of the Member States.

European Green Deal is particularly important in the context of the economic recovery associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we cannot talk about increasing the EU reduction target without proposing an action plan for its implementation and financial support that would allow each Member State to make this transformation. It is important to mitigate the risks associated with change, such as increased energy poverty and job losses" - he said.

The Deputy Minister also pointed out that the European Union should harmonise its efforts to achieve the common goal of climate neutrality by 2050 so as to meet common standards, ensuring a level playing field.

During the event, the Deputy Minister spoke about the project of Energy Policy of Poland until 2040 published at the beginning of September.

"PEP 2040 is an ambitious, consistent and responsible way of carrying out the energy transformation in Poland, enabling a low-carbon path in the long term. The updated draft of the Energy Policy of Poland takes into account the changes in the energy mix, as well as the need to ensure energy security, just transition, recovery from the COVID pandemic, a stable labour market, sustainable development of the economy and strengthening its competitiveness" - said Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

The Deputy Minister also pointed out that Germany and France are facing similar challenges in terms of the decentralised transformation of the power generation sector, the development of the grid in connection with the growing capacity of renewable energy sources and balancing.
