14.01.2022

On 13 January 2022, Minister of Climate and Environment, Anna Moskwa, met with Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Energy, Daiva Garbaliauskaitė. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibilities of cooperation between Poland and Lithuania in the field of renewable energy, including the development of offshore projects.

Potencjał polsko-litewskiej współpracy w obszarze OZE

“Lithuania, which is consistently implementing a low-carbon economy transformation policy, is an important partner for Poland in strengthening regional energy security. One of the pillars of this transformation is renewable energy, with a large role for offshore, which is an important element of energy policy also for Poland,”

Minister Anna Moskwa said.

Offshore wind energy is a key pillar of Poland’s future energy mix, which Poland will have to completely transform over the next decades, moving away from coal, while ensuring security of energy supply. According to the assumptions of the PEP2040, the installed offshore wind capacity will reach 5.9 GW in 2030 and up to 11 GW by 2040. This is well over 10% of the total offshore wind projected capacity in the Baltic by 2050, estimated at 93 GW.
In addition, during the meeting, the Lithuanian side expressed its willingness to cooperate with Poland in the field of hydrogen development, including the exchange of experiences and knowledge.

“We have similar goals in the hydrogen area, successful cooperation in the natural gas sector or the threat to energy security related to the use of energy as a means of geopolitical pressure constitute important grounds for joint work on the development of hydrogen economies. Poland can share its experience in this respect with the Lithuanian side,”

Minister Moskwa said.
